Reporter

I love to tell stories. Whether I’m reporting live from a moving vehicle in the midst of a tornado warning or tracking down the company executive responsible for polluting the ground water of a low-income community, every day on the streets presents a new challenge.

Some of the most memorable moments of my career include interviewing a man on his front porch just hours after a tornado destroyed his North Birmingham neighborhood and watching as the roof of his home collapsed around us while our camera was rolling.

I’m most proud of my investigative work dealing with male guards at an Alabama state prison allegedly abusing female inmates sexually, physically and mentally. Because of our series of reports, “Behind the Bars,” the National Institute of Corrections launched a federal investigation into the practices at Tutwiler Prison for Women. Guards are facing criminal charges, dozens of new surveillance cameras are being installed and the process in which inmates report complaints has been improved to secure anonymity.

Our CBS 42 News team received statewide recognition for coverage of the April 27th, 2011 tornadoes. In the days and weeks following this devastating event, I reported live routinely from Pratt City and Tuscaloosa, two of the hardest hit areas of the state.

Before starting work at CBS 42, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Samford University in May 2010 with a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Journalism.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading and writing poetry. I serve on the board of Birmingham’s City Equity Theatre and also on the junior board of the Alabama Wildlife Center. I love spending time outdoors with my dog Silo. (If you want to know the story behind how he became my best friend, look for the news story on our website. Yes, even my dog comes with an interesting story!)
