AUBURN, Ala. (WIAT) – Former Auburn University safety Mike McNeil is going to trial.
McNeil and three other former teammates face charges stemming from a 2011 home invasion robbery.
His lawyer attempted to drop out of the case on Friday, but the judge presiding over the case would not allow it.
On Wednesday, McNeil was the centerpiece of a report released by former New York Times journalist Selena Roberts. The report indicated that the Auburn football program fixed grades, paid student-athletes and committed other recruiting violations.
McNeil’s trial is set to begin on Monday.
