BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Samford University conducted a mock disaster drill for its students on Tuesday.
During the mock drill, dozens of students pretended to be injured or killed.
The scenario involved Homewood Police and Fire Department members. A full SWAT team also came in to capture the “suspect.”
Some of the “victims” were taken through HAZMAT decontamination procedures.
The training was a way for nursing students to learn how to handle the pressures of a real-life disaster situation.
The idea for the drill came after the April 27th tornadoes. Students and staff wondered whether they would know how to respond to a major disaster.
