TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – A controversial display is igniting tempers on the University of Alabama campus. Bama Students for Life, a pro-life organization for students, has sponsored the Genocide Awareness Project, a touring mural that shows graphic images of abortions. The images and text also compare abortions to the Holocaust and lynchings during the Civil Rights movement.
Members of Bama Students for Life would calmly approach passing students and staff to ask what they thought of the images. They would also answer any questions and provide information, even when some people became hostile towards them. While most students say they understand that the displays are a form of free speech, many said the Genocide Awareness Project took things too far.
The displays will be on the University of Alabama quad through Thursday at 4:00 pm. Bama for Life members say they hope the display will encourage more students to be pro-life, and that their generation will eventually outlaw abortion.
