BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Most people smile about 50 times a day, which makes having clean and shiny teeth all the more important.
The American Dental Association has a few tips to keep smiles looking as white and clean as possible.
The ADA recommends brushing teeth twice daily and flossing only once a day.
They also recommend replacing tooth brushes every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles become frayed.
It’s also important to remember that while sugar itself doesn’t cause cavities, the germs inside the mouth that feed on sugar do. So, it’s important to monitor how many sweets you are eating.
Lastly, the cavity-causing germs within the mouth can be passed from person to person.
Parents can pass bacteria to their kids by pre-chewing their food, sharing utensils or licking a pacifier to clean it.
