BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – In the wake of the Boston bombings, police poured over hours of surveillance and amateur video for evidence.
What would have taken hundreds of man hours can now take just seconds or mere minutes.
A new facial recognition and object-tracking technology uses meta data to analyze all of the images and video collected.
It can target men and women in specific age group or it can be used to identify objects in a specific area, like a child’s backpack or car.
“If there was a report that a red vehicle fled east on this street, we could run our analytics against the video and show you every single time a red vehicle went east,” said Diego Simkin, a field engineer for the company developing the technology.
