BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – A new ATM technology may soon end face-to-face interaction at banks.
The new technology allows customers to do most of bank interfacing at the drive-thru ATM.
The first step is to identification.
Customers identify themselves by swiping a debit, credit card or driver’s license.
A live teller based in another state will then pop up to assist to finish the transaction.
Bank administrators say the machines can perform about 80 percent of the functions of a traditional teller.
Analysts hope the new technology will retain customers and keep costs down.
