CORDOVA, Ala. (WIAT) – An EF4 tornado killed thirteen people injured more than fifty people on April 27, 2011. That violent twister wiped out much of the town.
People from Cordova say the old downtown which has been condemned is an eye sore and downright depressing.
Many residents say the town needs a grocery store and gas station desperately.
However with Governor Robert Bentley’s announcement in March 2013 that Cordova would recieve $120 million dollars in aid. The demolition of the downtown will begin on Tuesday April 23rd.
A step in the right direction for a downtown that has sat in ruins for two years.
Homeowner rebuilt but the economic center of the community is slowly on the rebound with the demolition of the “old” town.
