BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – On Friday, the American Red Cross demonstrated how they have improved their disaster response since the April 27, 2011 tornadoes.
The Red Cross established strike teams – groups of volunteers trained to mobilize quickly and set up shelters after disaster strikes.
Strike team members check the facility to make sure it is adequate for shelter purposes. They also put up signs and set up cots.
