ADAMSVILLE, Ala. (WIAT)- A day long standoff on Tall Tree Lane in Adamsville ended when SWAT units searched the house and didn’t find the suspect. 22-year old Jeremy Nevitt is wanted by the Mountain Brook Police Department for his role in a Wednesday night robbery at a Piggly Wiggly grocery store.
According to MBPD Chief Ted Cook, authorities were tracking a white SUV caught on surveillance tape at the Piggly Wiggly at the time of the robbery. This morning, Nevitt pulled out of a drive way in Tall Tree Lane in the driver seat of that SUV. After he allegedly lead officers on a brief chase, Chief Cook says he returned to the home and fled inside. That led to a standoff that lasted from around 9:30am until just after 6:00pm. During the standoff police officers used tear gas and a bullhorn, urging Nevitt to communicate with them. After a police robot made entry, SWAT units moved in and discovered the house was empty. “He’s probably scared and doesn’t know what to do, or who to turn to. He’s probably scared to trust anybody right now,” says Nevitt’s mother, Michelle Smith. ”I just want to tell him to turn himself into the police so nobody gets hurt.”
Nevitt is considered armed and dangerous by the Mountain Brook police. If you see him you’re urged to call 911 immediately.
