Study shows 80 million people could not afford health care in 2012

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – According to a study conducted by The Commonwealth Fund, 80 million people did not go to the doctor or access other medical services because they could not afford it.

That number is up from 75 million in 2011.

The study found that those who were uninsured or had inadequate health insurance were most likely to have trouble affording health care.

The numbers are expected to improve as more health care reform provisions take effect in 2014.
