HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (CNN) – In preparation for situations like the Boston Marathon bombings authorities attempt to gain a better understanding of the obstacles they face.
A demonstration in Huntsville is part of a training exercise from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms.
The ATF trains police and federal agents how to investigate explosions. Particularly how to dissect a bomb.
Instructor John Slover explains, “As debris is recovered and devices are recovered and reconstructed, or re-engineered, then you look at the tactics and the techniques that they use and learn from them.”
The ATF says most bombs involve simple gunpowder and an energy source like batteries. Ultimately, the goal is to find the one piece of evidence that may bring answers to a tragedy.
