Prescription drugs collected by local law enforcement

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) –   Alabama law enforcement agencies spent the day working to get drugs off the streets.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department had several stations set-up around the city to collect unused or expired prescription drugs as part of national drug take back day.

Law enforcement officials say the collections keep the drugs from getting into our water systems and into the wrong hands.

Captain Wayne Robinson says, “It’s very important to make sure this doesn’t make it in the kids’ hands. Prescription drugs is one of our bigger problems. People don’t realize that a lot of this stuff makes it back out on the street into organized crime and being sold.”

After the drugs are collected, they are destroyed by the drug enforcement agency at an undisclosed location.
