Well the answer was easy for Rick Zeski, who on Sunday found himself in that exact situation.

“I wanted to grab him and get him down back into the water because I was afraid he would be hit here.” -Rick Zeski

Luckily for him he wasn’t alone. Help would arrive in the form of Renee Lawrence.

“I saw ya’ll pulled over, so I always come equipped,” Renee joked as she pulled out a small animal cage to help get the turtle across the road.

But they don’t call them snapping turtles for nothing. The turtle dubbed “Slimy” by Rick certainly tried to take a few bites out of his would be rescuers.

“They deserve a chance too. Just because they’re not pretty doesn’t mean they don’t belong…They’re God’s creatures and they all have a role.” -Renee Lawrence

The two good Samaritans were able to get the turtle into the creek nearby, helping him avoid any chance of becoming roadkill.

Rick and Renee shared a joyous high five as they watched “Slimy” swim away.
