BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Ever since Cooper Green Mercy Hospital stopped providing care, some members of the community have been confused about how to get treatment elsewhere.
That confusion is the reason Congresswoman Terri Sewell held her second community forum to discuss indigent care in Jefferson County on Tuesday.
The CEOs of UAB Hospital and Saint Vincent’s Health System talked about their commitment to accepting former Cooper Green patients.
They also talked about how they are willing to work together to provide care.
County Manager Tony Petelos advises people without insurance to go to Cooper Green for urgent care first, unless it is a medical emergency.
In the case of a medical emergency, call 911 and you will be treated at the nearest hospital.
