CLANTON, Ala. (WIAT) – Normally by the second week of May, the shelves and bins at the Durbin Farms Market in Clanton are full of peaches. Not so much this year.
Owner Danny Jones says the unseasonably cool spring has slowed the growing process. Last year, they started harvesting in late April. This year it will be late May. All because of the cool weather and the heavy rains.
But Jones says that doesn’t mean this year’s harvest will be down. He says the early varieties will be down a little. But because of everything coming in late it will extend the season further into the summer.
