BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – This year, the City of Birmingham is taking a step back in time as it commemorates the 50-year anniversary of the civil rights movement.
Soon, people will be able to follow in the footsteps of those who fought for fair housing.
Ground was broken on Thursday on the Tiger Grant 12 Road to Recovery project on Thursday.
The 29-mile project will include 21 neighborhoods throughout Birmingham.
Each area will feature civil rights trail signs, detailing the difficulties and danger caused by racial zoning.
