6 Yr old Cullman boy killed while riding bike

CULLMAN, Ala. (WIAT) – A Cullman six year old was killed while riding his bike Thursday night in his neighborhood.

Jeremiah Harville was hit by a neighbor in the Carroll Acres subdivision just after five o’clock according to Cullman Assistant Chief of Police Craig Green.

He says the driver was not speeding and is not to blame for the accident in any way.  Apparently  the first grader darted in front of  the woman’s vehicle and she didn’t have time to react.

Meanwhile, Hundreds of students and parents in the district are grieving for the boy and his family.  Classmates are going through counseling at Cullman Primary school.

Cullman Superintendent Doctor Jan Harris says Harville’s classmates each wrote a letter sharing a story about him to pass along to his parents.  One first grader even led a prayer among the other students, which she says was a touching moment.

The police department plans to hold bicycle safety classes next year at the school to educate students about the dangers of playing near traffic.
