BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – According to a study from the American Heart Association, owning a pet, particularly a dog, could be good for a person’s heart.
Doctors say there seems to be a link between having a dog and a reduced risk of heart disease.
It is not clear if owning a pet actually lowers the risk or whether it is simply the fact healthier people tend to have pets.
Experts point out that people with dogs are more physically active than non-dog owners, because they go for walks with their pets.
Animals are also known to help reduce stress.
