Oklahoma City, OK (KWTV) – A Brazilian man is able to walk again and feed himself after a freak illness left him a quadruple amputee.
Doctors say Pedro Pimenta’s story is a testament to technology and the resilience of the human spirit.
Both of Pimenta’s arms have been amputated above the elbow and both legs above the knee. It’s all the result of a case of bacterial meningitis when he was 18.
The 22-year-old says he visited three clinics who all told him he needed to be in a wheelchair. But, he says he didn’t see it that way.
That’s when Pimenta decided to come to the United States looking for help. He found it at the Hanger Clinic in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
There, doctors fitted him with arm prosthesis that allows him nearly full motion – and legs with a computerized knee that monitors pressure and calculates resistance.
Pimenta says he couldn’t be happier to live his life to the fullest.
