(WIAT) – It was a wild night in Tarrant! Bodies falling, punches flying and even a chair being throw. But it wasn’t a criminal act. It was all for a good cause.
To raise money for the Tarrant City School System Global Championship Wrestling took over the high school gym.
And the high school’s SRO was the main attraction.
Wrestler “Maddog” Dan Sawyer explains, “Global Championship Wrestling is always trying to help out with schools. And goodness knows the schools need all of the help they can get.”
High School Principal Andrew Smith knows just how big of deal this is… even without the extra money the event is bringing in.
“It’s just an awesome opportunity for our kids. They get to see something that they watch on television all of the time.”
This isn’t the first time GCW has been here. Last time School Resource Officer Keith Smith had to step in and break up a six on one bullying incident.
“Me being the SRO here at the high school trying to portray a positive message. I couldn’t stand around and take it.”
So Smith picked one of the bullies up and slammed him.
For Smith this is more than some payback. This is also a dream he’s had since he was a kid. He’s just glad he can do it where it helps out.
“This year watching these kids it’s given me a reason to want to help them. They need something positive. There’s a lot of bad out there. Bad travels a lot faster than good.”
