Trussville, AL (WIAT)-Hewitt-Trussville wasn’t ready to close the history books just yet.
After a come from behind win in game two, the Huskies knew they would have to deliver against No. 3 Hoover on Saturday.
Three runs in the first inning was enough to punch their ticket to the state finals, a trip that has never been made in the history of this baseball program.
“We put so much in through the course of the year and it is such a stress during the week especially playing the most talented team in the state in Hoover”, said first-year head coach Jeff Mauldin. “You just put so much into it. God is good and it is just a good day to be a Huskie.”
Dakota Harwell hit a sac fly to drive in the first run. Brent McCarty followed with a 2 run double to make it 3-0.
Hoover would score a run in the 5th inning with a hit from Michael Powers but solid pitching and defense kept the Bucs from a comeback.
Now Hewitt-Trussville will face Pelham in the state finals, the team Mauldin coached the previous six seasons.
