BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Breastfeeding mothers who give newborns formula during the first few days of life may actually help mom continue breastfeeding.
The research was compiled using data collected using babies who struggled to gain weight during the first few days.
After they turned three months old, researchers found that 79 percent of the babies who had received limited formula were still breastfed.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends healthy mothers exclusively breastfeed for the first six months.
