BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Thousands of restaurants are helping keep sewer lines clear by joining a grassroots oil collection effort.
More than 10,000 restaurants are teaming up with Wiltshire Oil Recycling to spearhead the effort.
Using fat traps, the recycling company is hoping to create the world’s largest fat-fueled power station.
By 2015, more than 40,000 homes are expected to be powered using fuel collected through the project.
Developers hope the recycled energy idea will soon catch on in other cities.
