BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – She has been cancer free for two months, and now a local college freshman is getting the chance to fulfill one of her childhood dreams at the San Diego Zoo.
Courtney Alvis will get the chance to meet and view tons of animals at the zoo, courtesy of Magic Moments, a local organization that fulfills non-medical wishes of chronically ill Alabama kids.
Although Courtney is cancer free now, she was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma in 2010.
Today, she’s studying to be a nurse, but she has dreams of becoming a zoologist.
“I would love to be, like, a zookeeper or something,” Alvis said. “I want to have a lot of hands-on experience, something you don’t really get just going to a zoo and watching.”
She is headed to San Diego June 1st.
