SUMITON, Ala. (WIAT) – Police in Walker County are training to respond to life or death situations.
Using a firearms simulator, they’re getting a virtual feel for the real deal. Officers from Sumiton and surrounding areas are participating in a 2-week training course.
During role play, they’re faced with all types of scenarios, including school shootings and domestic violence calls.
The goal here is to determine when deadly force is needed. In this case, though, they’re not using real guns.
Since no real ammunition is required for the firearms training, each department saves thousands of dollars.
