TALLADEGA, Ala. (WIAT) – The mother of two students arrested after a fight at an area school says they were unfairly targeted.
Investigators say about ten students were involved in the fight at Talladega High School. It happened May 3rd just as the school day started. Police later arrested three students, including Shirley Searcy’s two sons. She says they were each sentenced to five days in juvenile detention. However, she says that’s unfair because one of her sons was attacked and the other defended him.
“He was attacked and I feel like the other children should have been arrested,” Searcy said.
Talladega Police Chief Alan Watson says surveillance video of the fight shows who was at fault.
“Fortunately our school has got a a pretty good camera system,” Chief Watson said.
One of Searcy’s sons has been allowed to return to school. The other awaits a hearing on his future at the school. The school system will not comment on the case because those involved are minors.
Investigators say another arrest is possible in the coming days.
