BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – During your ride to work on Friday morning, you may have noticed more cyclists than normal.
That’s because several people traded their four wheels for two as a part of Bike to Work Day.
Cyclists from all across the region participated in the annual event hosted by the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham and Commute Smart.
The two groups hope to encourage people to cycle on their commute, in order to become healthier and reduce the amount of harmful emissions in the air.
The national movement has seen an increase in participants each year.
And, as if the morning workout wasn’t enough, many area coffee shops offered free coffee as an incentive for those commuters to use their bicycle.
