Blazers Knock Off UCLA in Marathon Game, Win Regional

LOUISVILLE, KY (WIAT) – The UAB softball team made history in a 13 inning marathon 3-2 win over UCLA Sunday night. The win sends the Blazers to their first Super Regional in program history.

Whitney Fletcher’s RBI triple in the bottom of the 13th brought home Heather Pearson all the way from first base. The Blazers lost earlier on Sunday to UCLA to force a game three.

Sunday’s game was tied at 1 until the 11th inning, when the Bruins scored making it 2-1. UAB matched them in the bottom half of the inning to keep the game alive. The Blazers will now head to Gainesville to face the Florida Gators, who are the No.2 seed, in a best-of-three series beginning on Saturday.
