MOORE, Okla. (WIAT) – The tornado in Moore, Oklahoma is estimated to cost more than $2 billion in damages.
The path of destruction stretches across a span of 17 miles long and one mile wide.
A total of 237 people are said to be injured and 24 people have died.
Those numbers prompted the mayor of Moore to push for the installation of safe rooms in all new homes.
Mayor Glenn Lewis says he’s confident he will get the support from city council members.
If passed, the measure could go into effect within months.
Underground safe rooms are typically built below garages, and they tend to cost around $4,000.
