Birmingham, AL (WIAT)-The UAB softball team is putting in their final practices before traveling to Gainsville for the NCAA Super Regionals.
16 teams will be vying for a trip to the Women’s College World Series and UAB is right in the mix.
“Just the fact that there are 290 teams, 16 teams left, and we are one of them obviously says a lot,” said UAB Coach Marla Townsend. ”But this team right here isn’t just satisfied with making it to the Super Regionals, we want to come out two wins away from the world series. Why not just come out and win it?”
After a 13 inning marathon with UCLA in the Regional Championship, the Blazers notched their first 40-win season in program history.
UAB will face the No. 2 national seed Florida Gators.
“We don’t try to focus on the name on their jersey and their ranking,” said UAB pitcher Lannah Campbell. ”We just want to go at them and treat them like any other team. We are playing the game not the team.”
The Blazers and Gators will face off on Saturday, May 25 at Noon on ESPNU.
Sunday’s game is set for 11 a.m. and will be televised on ESPN.
