BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Taking a bike ride for physical fitness can be a rewarding activity, but a local trainer is taking a cross-country trip with more than just his health in mind.
On Friday, Robert Montgomery began his ride from Birmingham to Montana to raise awareness for Never Thirst, an organization dedicated to providing clean drinking water for the poor.
The 33-year-old says the trek will be challenging, but he adds that putting others before himself makes everything worthwhile.
“I was looking for an adventure, something to stretch me outside my comfort zone,” Montgomery said. “I wanted something that lasted more than a couple of hours or a day or two.”
Montgomery says he will have traveled between 2,00 and 2,500 miles by the end of the trip.
