WINSTON-SALEM, N.C (WIAT) – According to a new study, students entering into the medical profession may already be biased against obese people and not even know it.
Researchers at Wake Forest used a computer program to measure 300 students unconscious preferences for fat or thin patients.
Around 39 percent showed a bias against overweight people, and most of those who participated in the study were not aware of their bias.
Previous research has shown many doctors are less likely to respect an obese patient and believe they won’t follow treatment plans.
