TALLADEGA, Ala. (WIAT) – What do veterans and corvettes have in common? Both were on the track Saturday afternoon at the Talladega Super Speedway.
The “Vettes for Vets” group threw a big party at the track. They sold laps around the super-speedway to help raise funds for several different veterans groups.
Most of the cars were Corvettes and most of the participants were themselves veterans. Group president Mark Davis says it’s great example of vets helping other vets.
“Well it’s just amazing. It’s all about the veterans. We have about 30% of our guys out here that are veterans. They’re appreciative of it. They love their country. And they love helping veterans.”
There were a couple of special veterans on hand this afternoon. 94-Year-old Bill Morgan and 85-year-old Ray Smith. Both vets served in World War II and Smith also served in Korea.
