BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Hundreds of boats headed out into the Gulf of Mexico on Monday to watch the sinking of a retired cargo vessel.
The Lulu is one of three ships that will rest at the bottom of the ocean.
The Alabama Gulf Coast Reef and Restoration Association says the ships will be a part of an artificial diving reef.
The group hopes the reef will make the state’s coast a world-class recreational diving destination.
