Research shows babies delivered by C-Section more likely to be obese

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Babies born by Cesarean section are more likely to be obese, according to a new study published by the International Journal of Obesity.

Researchers studied more than 10,000 babies, and more than 900 were born by C-Section.

At first, the C-Section babies had lower birth weights.

However, by the time the babies were 11 years old they were almost twice as likely to be overweight or obese compared to children born in vaginal deliveries.

The study’s lead researcher with New York University believes that babies born by C-Section are not exposed to an important bacteria during birth.
