BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – According to a new survey from the Pew Research Center, mothers are now the main breadwinners in a record 40 percent of all households in the United States.
Researchers say the increase in the number of women working and making more than their husbands are what is driving the change.
However, the moms come from two very different groups.
2/3 of the mothers are single, working moms.
Only 37 percent of the moms are married.
Despite the results, half of those who were surveyed say working in outside the home makes it harder to have a successful marriage and raise children.
