(WIAT) – As Misty Freeman wandered through the rubble of what remained of her family’s home, she was taken aback by emotions.

“It’s depressing. It’s sad. My heart’s jumping out of my chest right now,” Freeman said. “This was my home. This is everything I’ve worked so hard for. It’s just gone.”

But Freeman understands what many people understand when disaster strikes – things can be replaced, but people cannot.

Her son rescued her entire family when a fire broke out in their home in Good Hope, waking them up in time to get all of them out safely.

“If not it would just be me,” Freeman explained. “I’d rather lose everything in my house a million times than lose my family.”

As it turns out, though, Misty didn’t lose everything.

She and her husband John have gone to bed each night with love notes, written to each other, above their heads.

Those notes were still there on Monday, a visible reminder of the many memories she and her family experienced together  inside the home.

The notes were not the only things she found on Monday, though. Freeman found her daughter Larisa’s senior picture album.

“It’s just amazing. It’s a miracle,” she exclaimed about finding the album.

Freeman took the discovery of the album as a sign.

“You were sent here so I could find this album,” She said.

As her family continues moves forward and continues to recover, the Freeman’s recovered two tangible memories of the many years spent inside their family home.
