BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Some jobs may have an impact on an employee’s weight.
According to a study conducted by CareerBuilder.com, about 3,600 full-time workers were asked if they have gained weight at their present job.
The results indicated that many of those who were polled feel as if they could benefit from losing a little bit of weight.
According to the study, high-stress professions, or those with long hours, tend to lead to a heavier weight.
Among those most likely to report weight gain are administrative assistants, engineers and teachers.
Workers blame sitting at a desk for too long, eating when stressed and eating fast food regularly as contributing factors to the unwanted weight gain.
So how can people who have gained weight because of their profession lose that weight?
Researchers at Johns Hopkins say the healthiest people exercise regularly, eat a Mediterranean-style diet, maintain a normal weight and do not smoke.
They say adopting those lifestyle behaviors early can make developing heart disease less of a risk.
