BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Keeping children away from plastic bags is a common practice with parents, oftentimes out of fear of suffocation.
However, in some cases, plastic bags could help save the lives of premature babies.
A study, which appears in the Journal of Pediatrics, conducted in Zambia suggests that poorer countries can use plastic bags, such as the ones found in grocery stores, to help maintain healthy body temperature for infants.
In the United States, infants are often swaddled with sterile plastic wrap to help keep their body temperature.
