MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) – Alabama Governor Robert Bentley will sign HB259 into action on Wednesday afternoon at the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery.
The bill, which makes it a crime to harass, interfere, assault or injure a police animal, a search and rescue animal or the handlers of the animals, passed the Alabama Senate on May 20, 2013.
The bill was sponsored by Rep. Paul DeMarco (R-Homewood).
It was first introduced on February 12 and passed the State House of Representatives on April 25.
