BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – -A native Alabamian, Omar Hammami, was added to the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list last November.

U.S. Authorities say he provided material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization.

The State Department has put a $5 million price on Omar’s head.

He’s also wanted for his role in suicide bombings in Somalia, the department says. That attack killed innocent civilians.

His father, Shafik, says his son had a bright future and is disappointed in his son’s decision.

“It hurts me very much. It hurts me very much,” Shafik Hammami said. “It hurts to hear you son is a terrorist. It’s devastating for both of us. He is out only son.”

For the last year, authorities say Omar has been at war with the militant group.

He has been seen saying in videos that they have forsaken the “true path.”
