SAMANTHA, Ala. (WIAT) – It’s not exactly unusual for a couple of floral arrangements to disappear from cemeteries. Campground Cemetery’s board chairman, Joe Appling, says occasionally the arrangements would blow away. Other times, people believe they had been stolen. However, in the past year there have been around 100 arrangements that have vanished. Two other cemeteries in the area have also noticed a spike in the number of sprays that have gone missing.
Locals believe the flowers are being stolen and potentially being resold. At least one of the more expensive arrangements that was taken from Campground Cemetery turned up in another cemetery. Not only is replacing the flowers a major financial burden for the families, but it’s also very upsetting that their loved one’s graves have been disturbed.
