BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama (GSNCA) voted unanimously on Wednesday to reconsider the three phase property plan approved in May 2012.
Four out of six camps were slated to close by this summer.
The new resolution states that no GSNCA camp properties will be sold while they re-evaluate the strategic plan.
Several scouts, parents and leaders were present for Wednesday’s meeting to encourage board members to vote to save the camps.
The parents say they’re pleased with the decision and believe the GSNCA Board of Directors is listening to the membership.
Nine-year-old Peyton Mayo wrote a letter to the board. Her message was simple. “I want them to know I love camp coleman and I would be heartbroken if it was shut down.”
The GSNCA agreed they would consider the new, revised property plan during their January 2014 board meeting.
They expect the proposal to include input from membership, outside experts, and community partners.
