BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The Supreme Court is expected to vote sometime in June on the Voting Rights Act.
Shelby County is challenging the act, claiming it is unconstitutional.
Supporters of the act say it’s the heart of civil rights legislation.
Many of the supporters will make their way across Alabama on Friday in a Voting Rights Act caravan led by Nation of Islam founder Louis Farrakhan.
It begins with a rally at Kelly Ingram Park in Birmingham.
It’s set to start between 9 and 9:45 a.m.
The caravan will be followed by a rally at the Shelby County Courthouse in Columbiana at 10:30 a.m.
The caravan will then make a stop in Selma before ending at the Alabama State Capitol Building in Montgomery.
