Students participate in Alabama Governor’s School

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – 83 rising high school seniors from across the state are participating in the Alabama Governor’s School in Birmingham.

For the next two weeks, the students will take classes at Samford University and participate in a host of extracurricular activities.

On Tuesday, the students participated in community service projects, including one held at Woodlawn Library.

“They will make friendships, and hopefully networks, they can use for the rest of their lives,” George Keller, the Director of Alabama Governor’s School, said on Tuesday. “Even those who leave the state, we hope that they’ll come back, that they’ll remember this fondly and try to give back to the state as they pursue their careers.”

The students participating in the program are selected based on academics, leadership and community service.
