HANCEVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) – Hanceville Police Chief Bob Long is facing some potential staff cuts unless he can come up with additional revenue to help fund the department.
Long is asking the Hanceville City Council to add a half cent sales tax increase to maintain his current staff.
That would increase Hanceville’s sales tax from 8.5 to 9 percent .
Long reminds residents that is only an additional five cents for every ten dollars spent.
He says it is worth the extra sales tax considering all of the officers who would be on the chopping block have families to support.
The departments K-9 unit is also in jeopardy of being shut down.
Long says the issue will not be decided on until the new budget is voted on in October.
