GREAT BRITAIN (WIAT) – Doctors have long said breastfeeding provides infants with a healthy head start.
Now, researchers in Great Britain say breastfeeding can help a child climb the social ladder later in life.
The study was published in the journal, Archives of Disease in Childhood.
Looking at about 35,000 children, researchers say those who were breastfed were consistently more likely to achieve a higher social status.
They believe this finding suggests breastfeeding leads to developmental and behavioral advantages which can last well unto adulthood.
Researchers say it’s difficult to tell if the nutrients in breast milk will make the difference, or if the difference is the bonding that occurs during feeding.
