TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox announced his intentions to run for re-election on Thursday via his website and other social media outlets.
The Tuscaloosa-native is seeking his third term as the city’s mayor.
During his most recent term, Maddox earned national acclaim for his efforts to lead and guide Tuscaloosa following the devastating tornado that tore through the town on April 27, 2011.
“In the midst of Tuscaloosa’s darkest moment, we found our heart and soul. On street corners and in our neighborhoods, countless people transformed themselves into heroes by aiding the injured, searching for the missing, clearing the debris, and feeding the hungry from dawn to dusk,” Maddox said of the days after the storm.
Maddox was first elected as mayor of the city in 2005 at the age of 32. Since then, Tuscaloosa has boasted one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state.
“Throughout my two terms as Mayor, the motivating force behind every decision I have made is that I believe in Tuscaloosa and I believe there is nothing we cannot accomplish by working together,” he added. “That is why I am excited that I am again running for Mayor of Tuscaloosa.”
