Safety tips for dealing with fireworks

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – July 4th brings to mind time with the family, cookouts, swimming and fireworks.

However, not being careful around fireworks could cap off what usually is a fun Independence Day holiday.

Fireworks businesses are opening up all across the area ahead of the popular holiday.

As such, there are a number of safety tips that should be heeded.

Children should never use fireworks without adult supervision.

It’s also important to always keep a bucket of water nearby.

Re-lighting or picking up a firework that did not ignite or explode is dangerous.

Likewise, it’s never a good idea to hold a firework in your hand.

Wearing shoes is also important to prevent any burns impacting your feet.

Pointing fireworks at another person is highly dangerous and is never good practice when handling fireworks.

Lastly, people can always leave the fireworks to the professionals. For a list of some locations that will be hosting fireworks ceremonies on July 4, 2013, click this link.
